It is a small-diameter cylinder topped by an applicator ball and a cap, with a rather narrow label band. The whole unit has a high centre of gravity, so it behaves like an unstable container. Some are slightly oval and must be guided carefully so they do not rotate during the process.
It must not. The ball housing and the cap thread have to remain clear: any material stuck there compromises the rotation of the applicator or the closure. That sets a strict upper limit for the label.
